Pain During Pregnancy, After Birth, or Through Menopause Is Not Something You Just Have to Live With.

Women's health physiotherapy in Fiji — for every stage of a woman's physical life.

Many of the women who come to us for the first time say some version of the same thing: I thought this was just part of it. Back pain during pregnancy. Pelvic pain that continued for months after birth. Joint aches and stiffness through menopause. They were told — or simply assumed — that these were unavoidable experiences to be endured.

In most cases, they are not. They are treatable. And the sooner physiotherapy begins, the faster and more completely they resolve.

Physiotherapy During Pregnancy

Pregnancy places significant and rapidly changing demands on the body. As the uterus grows, the centre of gravity shifts forward — straining the lower back, pelvis, and hip joints. The hormone relaxin, released to prepare the pelvis for birth, also relaxes ligaments throughout the body — reducing joint stability and creating vulnerability to pain and injury.

We work with pregnant patients experiencing lower back and pelvic girdle pain, sciatic nerve pain, pubic symphysis dysfunction, rib and mid-back discomfort from postural adaptation, and carpal tunnel symptoms common in the third trimester.

Treatment is gentle, safe, and adapted at every stage of pregnancy. It also includes education — on optimal positions, movement strategies, and preparation for labour and delivery.

Postnatal Recovery

The period following birth is one of the most physically demanding and least supported phases of a woman's life. The body has undergone enormous change — and then is immediately placed under the demands of caring for a newborn, often with minimal sleep and poor posture during feeding.

Postnatal physiotherapy addresses core and pelvic floor rehabilitation following vaginal birth or caesarean section, diastasis recti — separation of the abdominal muscles that is very common post-birth and frequently undertreated, scar tissue management following caesarean or perineal repair, postural pain from feeding and carrying, and a gradual, safe return to exercise.

We also offer home visits for postnatal patients who cannot travel to the clinic in the early weeks following birth. Call us to discuss your situation.

Peri-Menopausal and Menopausal Health

As oestrogen levels decline during perimenopause and menopause, joints become less cushioned, muscles lose mass and strength, and bone density decreases. The result is a period when joint pain, stiffness, and increased injury risk converge — often without any single obvious cause.

Physiotherapy at this stage focuses on maintaining joint mobility, building and preserving muscle strength, managing existing arthritis or joint degeneration, fall prevention and balance training, and keeping the body capable and comfortable through this transition.
