Something Feels Different About How Your Child Moves. Here's When to Get It Assessed.
Paediatric physiotherapy in Fiji — gentle, child-appropriate care that supports healthy development from the start.
Children's bodies are in a constant state of development — and during that development, problems can emerge that are easy to dismiss or attribute to growth phases. Toe walking. Flat feet. Clumsiness that goes beyond the expected. Delayed milestones. Pain in the legs or feet that your child struggles to describe. A movement pattern that just looks different.
Some of these do resolve on their own. Others do not — and the window for early intervention, when it is needed, is limited. The earlier a developmental or movement problem is identified and treated, the less it constrains the child's physical confidence, participation in sport and play, and long-term musculoskeletal health.
What Paediatric Physiotherapy Addresses
We work with children experiencing developmental delays affecting gross motor skills — crawling, walking, running, jumping — and fine motor difficulties where these overlap with physical function. We assess and treat toe walking, flat feet and foot alignment concerns, leg length discrepancy and gait abnormalities, coordination and balance disorders, growing pains, particularly in the legs and knees, post-fracture rehabilitation, and movement challenges in children with conditions including cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, hypermobility, and developmental coordination disorder.
We also receive referrals for children who are not meeting expected movement milestones and require a professional physical assessment to understand why.
What to Expect at an Assessment
Children's assessments are designed to be child-friendly. We do not expect a five-year-old to lie still on a table for forty minutes. We observe how your child moves, plays, and responds — gathering clinical information in a way that works for them.
You will be present throughout. After the assessment, we will explain clearly what we found, whether treatment is indicated, what that treatment would involve, and what you can do at home to support your child's progress between sessions.
Treatment, where required, is structured as achievable, engaging activities — not a series of passive procedures. Children who enjoy their sessions make better progress.
A Note for Parents
If you have noticed something about how your child moves, develops, or experiences pain and you are not sure whether it warrants attention — call us. A brief conversation with one of our physiotherapists will tell you whether an assessment is needed. You will not be told a problem exists where none does. But if something does need addressing, you will know — and you will know early.
